Why Verifiable AI matters

Flare Updates

AI agents can help you do these in a split second:

  • Create a new wallet
  • Swap 100 USDC to FLR
  • Restake one-third of my FLR and XRP to secure an AI platform

While AI has the potential to handle complicated on-chain actions in the real world, following your intent and managing all technical details, a critical question remains: Are we ready to place our trust in these agents?

Current AI agents: An unverifiable leap

To many, AI in crypto means building tools for AI agents to launch & manage token liquidity. Andrew's reply highlights the core issue of trust and the lack of verification.

AI agents are set to transform blockchain interactions, but this transformation requires robust safety measures and a meaningful tech stack. To discuss this further, let's take a step back to discuss what an AI agent is.

What is an AI agent?

AI agents are software systems that can perceive their environment, make decisions, and take action to reach an end goal. Unlike traditional chatbots, these systems can execute actions in the real world, following your intent while handling all the complex details.

This moves the interaction experience from an imperative model to a declarative model:

  • Imperative Model: You must know all the intermediate steps. For example, to swap USDC to FLR on Flare, you need to understand different pools on SparkDEX, associated liquidity, and more.
  • Declarative Model: You simply declare your goal  (e.g., "I want to swap 100 USDC to FLR"), and let the agent handle the underlying complexity.

AI agents work, not "because I said so"

With great power comes greater responsibility. AI agents can transform blockchain interactions, but this transformation requires robust safety measures. To build that, three critical components are required.

  1. High-quality data: Flare's decentralized network of data providers ensures unbiased, reliable information.
  2. Verifiable compute: Significant off-chain computations are executed within TEEs—secure, isolated environments that keep sensitive operations private and tamper-proof.
  3. Immutable attestations: On-chain records that certify your AI agent is running exactly as intended, with no unauthorized modifications.

What is Flare building?

Our vision is to facilitate fully autonomous AI agents operating alongside human users on-chain. These agents will:

  • Self-sustain through FLR earnings
  • Access decentralized data through Flare protocols
  • Facilitate human transactions
  • Identify patterns and anomalies in real-world data
  • Offer customizable behaviors based on user preferences
  • Provide automated portfolio management and risk assessment
  • Enable complex multi-step transactions with a single command

Curious? The journey starts at the Flare x Google Cloud Verifiable AI Hackathon on March 7-9 in UC Berkeley, where we offer $100K and four specialized tracks to explore: https://hackathon.flare.network.
